If you’re willing to spend between Y8,000 (€75) and Y14,000 (€135) per night for a single, double, or twin room, you’ll be spoiled for choice with mid-range hotels in Kyoto. There are many affordable mid-range hotels in the city.
For this amount of money, you can expect almost the same level of service as what you would get at a “smart business hotel” or a somewhat stripped-down version of an international luxury hotel. That means a room that is somewhat larger than a standard hotel room and perhaps a few design elements to spruce up the space. The hotel will likely have its own restaurant or even a spa. There are many affordable mid-range hotels in Kyoto that offer excellent value for money.
Here is a list of what I consider the best mid-range hotels in Kyoto in order of preference:

Ryokan – Kyoto’s luxe traditionele accommodatie
If you’re visiting Kyoto, the heart of traditional Japan, you really should try to spend a night at a good Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). When my friends, family, or clients visit Japan, I usually recommend they spend their first night in a great Ryokan and then move on to a hotel like one of the ones listed above.
