You can find comfortable and clean budget hotels in Kyoto for less than what it would cost to have a decent dinner in New York or Paris. In recent years, there has been a significant trend in budget hotels in Kyoto, making the city one of the best accommodation bargains.
Kyoto offers a surprisingly large number of affordable hotels, some of which offer double rooms starting at Y6500 (€60) per night. On this website, we feature some of the hotels that charge less than Y8000 (€75) per night for a single or double room as budget options. Of course, prices vary by season and some of the places listed here may fall into the mid-range at certain times of the year.
You can find a variety of budget hotels in Downtown Kyoto, Kyoto Station Area, and Central Kyoto. Large hotel chains such as Toyoko Inn also have branches in Kyoto, and they usually offer good value for money. If you’re visiting Kyoto, the heart of traditional Japan, you really should try to spend a night in a good Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn).
